Mission

To enable, through hospitality and assistance, the assembly to participate more fully in the liturgy and feel unified in our faith in a safe environment.

An usher is usually the first representative of the parish encountered by people coming to mass. An usher does not merely help someone find a seat. Rather, hospitality is the official business, or liturgical ministry, of the usher. Ushers are the visible hospitality of the whole faith community. In this role, ushers have specific tasks. Their first task is to greet people in the name of our parish community, to make them feel welcome, and to help them get acquainted with other people in the parish. In this capacity, ushers have a particular mission - to be on the lookout for visitors and new members of the parish.

Ushers perform many tasks from taking up the collection and setting out and collecting orange safety cones to giving out microphone receivers for the hearing impaired and finding a tissue for a crying child.  They  cheerfully provide information such as the location of lost & found (coat room), restrooms, water fountains, and telephones.

Warmth and friendliness is evident in everything an usher does. The usher is unobtrusive in their tasks performed during the liturgy and yet still be participating. Their duties are performed without people particularly noticing their presence.

Every usher is assigned to a monthly team, which is scheduled for every third month.  Ushers are needed also for Holy Days of Obligation, weddings, funerals, and other days of celebration or activity. In these cases, a sign-up sheet is posted in the Usher Closet or a phone call will be made asking for their assistance. Their willingness to help is greatly appreciated.

Ushers perform a very important part in the ministry at mass here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. Their dedication, presence, reverence, and awareness are a valuable part of the celebration of worship and we thank them very much for their participation and cooperation.  If you would like to join this ministry, or have questions, please call Claire at 846-3850 ex. 132.
