Catechists PDF Print E-mail

The Religious Formation Program at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church relies on the generosity of time and talent of volunteer Catechists.  Each year, over 100 Catechists are needed.  Two Catechists are assigned to each classroom with up to 20 children.  For the 2017-2018 Religious Education Calendar, click here.

Orientation sessions are scheduled at the beginning of the year to provide information and formation to the volunteers.

Preschool Catechists
Catechists for children ages 3 – Pre-Kindergarten provide formation for the children during the 9:30 AM Mass.  Ideal catechists for this group would be those who do not have children in this age group, so that the parents can attend Mass during class.

Elementary Catechists
Formation Sessions for Grades K – 5 are offered on:

  • Sundays from 8:15 – 9:15 AM
  • Sundays from 10:45 – 11:45 AM
  • Wednesdays from 4:15 - 5:15 PM

Catechists are encouraged to remain in the same grade level each year to gain experience and expertise in the curriculum.

An Elementary Catechist Advisory Board includes two lead Catechists from each grade level who provide a syllabus and coordinate lesson plans for the grade level.  This encourages collaboration among those who teach each grade and provides a consistent experience for all children.

Middle School Catechists
Formation sessions for grades 6 – 7 are held on:

  • Sunday mornings at 10:45 AM
  • Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM
  • Wednesdayafternoons at 4:15 PM

Sacramental Preparation Catechists

First Reconciliation & First Eucharist
Preparation for First Reconciliation includes six sessions in the fall on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00PM.  Preparation for First Communion includes eight sessions in the spring.  The parish provides lesson plans for all sessions

Confirmation
Preparation for Confirmation is scheduled on Sunday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 PM during the months of September – April.

Safe and Sacred Training
Online training for safe conduct when working with minors is required by all those who volunteer with children in the parish.  The training must be repeated every five years.  Click here to learn more about Safe & Sacred.

Catechist Certification
The Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana offers a Catechists Certification Program called F.I.R.E.  Catechists are encouraged to participate. Click here for more information.
